Workshop on "Empowering the underprivileged through innovation"

A workshop on “Empowering the underprivileged through innovation” was organized by CSIM Hyderabad with the help of our students on 24th may 2009. About 100 participants attended this workshop.

The following speakers made presentations during the workshop.

  4. Sri Bhanu Prakash, DR.Reddy’s Foundation

  6. Sri B. Ravishankar, Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP)
  7. Sri Sridhar Muppidi, Education for Free Foundation


There was considerable interaction among the participants during the sessions and also during the tea and lunch breaks. Another attractive feature of the workshop was a crossword competition on Microfinance and Social Entrepreneurship. This competition was designed by “Rang De” Group. A large number of participants took part in this competition and several of them won prizes. This competition added a fun element in this workshop and made it educative as well as enjoyable.



Main issues discussed:

  1. The process of innovation in the social sector and the role of social entrepreneurs.
  2. Examples of social innovations for generating livelihoods for the underprivileged
  3. Innovations for agricultural and rural development and its role in improving the quality of life for poor people
  4. Innovations in education and health for the underprivileged.
  5. Using information and communication technologies for empowering the poor people in rural areas
  6. Role of innovative microcredit, micro-saving and micro-insurance for empowering the underprivileged


The feedback from the participants was very positive.
