CSIM was formally inaugurated by Ms Sudha Murthy of Infosys Foundation in Chennai on July 15th, 2001. The one-year full time Post Graduate Diploma in Social Initiative and Management (PGDSIM) was launched on August 15th, 2001 and the four-month part-time Social Entrepreneurship Outlook Programme (SEOP) on March 4th 2006

CSIM programmes stands out both for the breadth of social issues addressed and range of beneficiary groups supported. The major social objectives that the participants are involved include:

CSIM Chennai's inclusive educational policy has opened the doors for disabled and marginalized groups to benefit from the course. They include

IMPACT

• 15 homemakers are involved in social causes
• 27 Transgender entrepreneurs started 6 social enterprises
• 25 Differently abled change agents
• 23 Women SHG leaders launched innovative enterprises for their group members
• 103 Individuals launched social enterprises across Tamil Nadu on completion of the course
• 164 NGO staff implemented new strategies in their organizations
• 181 NGOs are adopting social entrepreneurial practices in Tamil Nadu. Over 55% of them are rural NGOs working for the empowerment of their villages

CSIM puts people in the lead, empowering social entrepreneurs to create sustainable solutions to the social or environmental challenges they care most passionately about. It helps to build their capabilities in relation to their personal development, business skills, social impact and networks. CSIM also enables them to build stronger communities thus, making a lasting benefit to society.
